As this great tournament is about to kick off, what do you think ??

Biggrin

Ive already placed a few bets @ William Hill.

Belgium to reach the QF's

I was going to put a bet on ENgland reaching the semi finals, but @ 2/1 [lol crazy odds] I didnt bother. So I did some other random bets on England, get our of the groups/QF's/SF's accumulator.

I also did some really crazy bets, lol, with Leicester City winning the EPL this season, I thought why not !!!

So Ive had -

Wales to WIN Euro 2016 @ 66/1

&

Russia to WIN Euro 2016 @ 66/1

Laugh Out Loud Woot

Anyone else had any bets, or just their thoughts on tonight's game and Englands game tomorrow night.....?

COME ON ENGLAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dance Dance

My predictions for the first round would be the following.

GROUP A: France-Romania 2:0 ; Albania - Switzerland 1:1
GROUP B: Wales - Slovakia 1:2 ; England - Russia 1:1 (would be very happy with this result, though England is a favourite)
GROUP C: Poland - N.Ireland 0:0 ; Germany - Ukraine 3:1
GROUP D: Turkey - Croatia 1:2 ; Spain - Czech Rep 2:1
GROUP E: Ireland - Sweden 2:2 ; Belguim - Italy 1:1
GROUP F: Austria - Hungary 1:0 ; Portugal - Iceland 1:1

In general I would say Germany, France are the favourites of the tournament personally for me. Big, but less chances are for Spain, England and maybe Belguim or Italy (italians are always good in knockout stages). I can really expect surprises from teams like Switzerland, Ukraine, N.Ireland, Austria or Iceland.

Saying about our Group B: I can say that from what I have seen in friendlies Wales is the weakest team, though they have Ramsey and Bale that can get it done in one particular game. But I would say that England should finish top of the group, with us (Russia) and Slovakia battling for 2nd spot. Very hard to predict something atm and surely would be some surprises!

My predictions for round one:

Group A: France 2-0 Romania; Albania 0-0 Switzerland
Group B: Wales 1-1 Slovakia; England 2-0 Russia
Group C: Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland; Germany 2-1 Ukraine
Group D: Turkey 0-1 Croatia; Spain 3-1 Czech Republic
Group E: Rep. Ireland 1-1 Sweden; Belgium 2-1 Italy
Group F: Austria 2-0 Hungary; Portugal 1-0 Iceland

I think France will win the tournament, beating Spain in the final (done a predictor already). England, Belgium and Germany are probably going to be amongst the teams fighting for the championship, but something tells me this is the year for shocks. 24 years ago, Denmark won the Euro's. 12 years ago, Greece won it. 12 years later, brings us to now. A shock on the horizon? It's certainly viable after Leicester's incredible season.

Don't underestimate Wales. They fought well with Belgium in qualifying, and with Bale providing the quality they need (he wasn't fit for some friendlies), they can certainly qualify for the Last 16.

My pick to perhaps surprise are Croatia. If they do beat Turkey that is. But Group D is still a tricky group. Otherwise, I'd say Portugal should easily get out their group, and Cristiano Ronaldo should be in the majority of people's Fantasy Football teams- at least for the Group Stages. Germany enter the tournament in poor form, but they tend to overcome that in major tournaments; and Thomas Muller usually finds the net on a few occasions in major tournaments too.

My pick for the Golden Boot is Muller. My pick for player of the tournament is Griezmann, although the likes of Pogba, Ronaldo, Hazard, Kane, Martial, Ozil and Iniesta should impress.

Probably wrong on most fronts but I hope for an entertaining tournament.

I reckon

First round:

GROUP A: France-Romania 5:1 ; Albania - Switzerland 0:3
GROUP B: Wales - Slovakia 3:1 ; England - Russia 2:0
GROUP C: Poland - N.Ireland 2:1 ; Germany - Ukraine 4:2
GROUP D: Turkey - Croatia 2:2 ; Spain - Czech Rep 2:0
GROUP E: R.o. Ireland - Sweden 1:1 ; Belgium - Italy 0:0
GROUP F: Austria - Hungary 3:2 ; Portugal - Iceland 2:1

I fancy Germany overall but I think France will be the most entertaining team, perhaps lacking the experience to overcome home pressure and win though. I fancy Wales to get out of their group, with Bale, Griezmann and Muller vying for player of the tournament. Muller golden boot. Surprise packages: N Ireland for grit, Switzerland for flair.

Hoping as a side note that the tournament is remembered for good football and not for various worries which have clouded the build-up.

The team's qualifying records were quite interesting:

Poland's 33 goals (Robert Lewandowski with 13 goals) were the most throughout qualifying. 15 of which were against Gibraltar, however. They did have a better head-to-head (3-3, away goals rule) than Germany despite finishing second place.

Romania conceded only 2 goals in qualifying (1 v Hungary; 1 v Finland). But they only qualified as group runner-up.

England had the best goal difference, with +28. They scored 31, conceding just three times. They were the only team to have a 100% record in qualifying (won all 10 games).

Out of all those who qualified, Albania scored the fewest with 10 goals. However, despite a poor offensive record, they were solid defensively- conceding just 5 goals in a group containing the likes of Portugal and Denmark.

Despite topping Group A, Czech Republic had the weakest defence in qualifying out of those who qualified- conceding 14 times. They conceded twice in four group games (against Turkey (H), Netherlands (A), Kazakhstan (A) and Iceland (A)).

Albania are also the lowest ranked team taking part, lying 42nd in the FIFA World Rankings List. Only 5 teams are occupying spots in the top 10- Belgium; Germany; Spain; Portugal; Austria.

Seems strange to not mention the host nation and favourites, France. That's all I have to say for them.

You're correct.

1968- 0-1 v Yugoslavia
1980- 1-1 v Belgium
1988- 0-1 v Republic. Ireland
1992- 0-0 v Denmark
1996- 1-1 v Switzerland
2000- 2-3 v Portugal
2004- 1-2 v France
2012- 1-1 v France

Quite a poor record, but tomorrow night is certainly a chance to change our fortunes and make some history via a victory. The fact we've only scored twice once in an opening game of a European Championship tournament is disappointing too.

Very good statistics for us, didnt know about that! Anw first game doesnt mean a lot as practice shows from previous tournaments. The thing with this tournament is that the level of football generally in Europe has risen up significantly. Like 4 years ago I was certainly against 24 teams in Euros, but now I have to admit that it was a good decision. Noone would give 3 points to anyone in advance, even now France is having huge troubles with Romania and I am pretty sure there would be very surprising results and outcomes starting from the group stage.
